The Eastern Regional Tourism District needs your support – Tourism District Budget News

On February 18th, the Governor released his recommended budget for the next two fiscal years. In that budget all funding for Regional Tourism Districts has been eliminated. If approved by the Legislature this will result in the closing of the District (Mystic Country) – and support and promotion of the tourism industry in eastern Connecticut – will cease to exist.

On Monday March 2, 2015, the Appropriations Committee will begin conducting hearings from which they will make final funding decisions. It is important, if you support continuing the work of the District and Mystic Country, that members of the Legislature hear your voice. This […]

New Research Data Available

Economic Impact of Travel in Connecticut

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the results of an economic impact study of the tourism industry in Connecticut, showing that the sector of the state’s economy generated $14 billion in total sales in 2013 – a three-percent increase from the prior year.  The study also shows that tourism supports more than 118,000 jobs statewide – including 80,000 direct jobs – representing 5.3 percent of all employment in the state.  Approximately 5,000 new jobs have been created in the industry since the end of the recession.
